RHI Magnesita

Dating back to 1834, RHI was an Austria-based industrial company with bases all over the world. In  2017 it merged with Magnesita, a Brazilian rival and moved its HQ to London.  In a short timescale of 8 weeks, KSBC ensured that they would have a state-of-the-art, connected office to relocate into.

The Challenge

In this very short timescale, the staff of KSBC had to coordinate with RHI Magnesita in locations like Vienna, USA, Brazil and the UK. Install the fibre connection in less than the normal 13 weeks, and ensure that there were no glitches.

The Implementation

It was a standard implementation, two fibre circuits, including one MPLS, ADSL backup, wifi deployment with guest and corporate network. Video conferencing deployment – Polycom based. Microsoft Surface screen installation and configuration. KSBC sent three specialist technicians to attend on the move day – racked and patched all of the equipment, ensuring that there was no discontinuity of communications.

However the client specified that they needed ISDN30 phone technology to integrate with their global shared services – this is a technology which will be obsolete in the next five years, so it is rare to do new implementations. KSBC installed this, and delivered the rest of the contract under difficult circumstances: the integration was successful.

The Results

Overall, KSBC completed an extremely challenging move without a hitch. This was a risky scenario as there was very little time to implement it, and if there had been problems, a high-profile company like RHI Magnesita would not have appreciated the public negativity this would have generated.

Since the merger, the company’s stock price has gone up from 4400 up to 5350  maximum.  It is likely that this would have been affected if the move had gone badly.

KSBC is providing ongoing ICT support to the company.

“We mobilised before the lease was signed and plugged smoothly in with the other contractors, despite the lateness of engagement”     Jamie O’Donnell, KSBC’s Chief Operating Officer

“The only complaint that I have is that there was nothing to complain about.”.
Rainer Eggert, RHI Magnesita Project Manager
